Performing in a musical capacity
since age six and writing since 1990, Wakefield has
made his dynamic presence on the scene known with
no uncertain terms. Writing in a political yet lyrical
voice and performing with an audaciousness, yet to-date,
unseen aggressive style, he has blasted onto over
300 spoken word stages across Canada and the U.S.
since 2002 and can be experienced regularly at Coffeehouse
Features and Cabarets, The Art Bar Reading Series,
Red Cabaret and other feature readings, poetry slams,
sharing stages with bands and fundraisers.
Wakefield's powerful poetry and
captivating prose have been featured in a number of
publications; both on the Internet and in print and
he has appeared on Torontonian radio programs like
CIUT 89.5 fm. Constantly rotating between feature
and open mic performances, Wakefield has published
his first written work, "Lyrical Pitbull Impounded"
- at York University it is required reading - and
is on the second cd of a double cd release to come.
One of the city's most renowned Black poets, Wakefield
is in the midst of another book project and has also
started his own monthly reading series entitled "Pitbull
Poetry Reading Series", popping up in various
venues around Toronto. Of his latest accomplishments
he has appeared on TVO's Imprint, CBC and performed
at Word on the Street and Scream in High Park.
Like City Pulse, Wakefield is everywhere.
