Sankofa means, 'one must go back to the past in order to go forward'. Poet, griot, community developer, and community organizer, Sankofa founded the Westside Cipher with his partner Unblind, and has planned many poetry events in Toronto such as Kwanzaa Celebrations and Conscious Spoken Word Open Mics. He has a radio show on CHRY 105.5 fm called, 'Urban Griots' that promotes and trains young poets or aspiring radio programmers to get into the broadcasting business. Sankofa is also an advisor for the Jamaican Canadian Association Youth Affairs Committee.
